This is certainly a great testament to LPA's commitment to green design and its adamancy toward executing this mission. According to the article, the Top 100 generated nearly $3 billion in revenue last year, a nearly 64 percent increase from the year before. Certainly the sustainable market has grown as awareness of our increasingly fragile environment has grown, but it's pretty neat to see that a primarily California-based firm like LPA has been able to match output with much larger and farther-reaching companies.
The overall revenue increase is also an optimistic sign for the green movement-it is slowly becoming less of a "movement" and more of a mainstream practice. While the design community as a whole can still accomplish much more, that we have come this far is a great sign. I look forward to the day sustainability evolves from simply the catchy trend to something people habitually practice without special emphasis, because incorporating such a mentality into our daily lives can only help our built environment. And I'm glad to be a part of a company that has historically promoted this mindset.
